Reaching the Unchurched and Dechurched

Posted on 08/11/2010 by Alison Kennedy

Reaching the next generation for Christ is very important. According to a new book by the National Back to Church Spokesperson Ed Stetzer, “Unchurched young adults are open and believe many of the things that Christians believe, but they still need to be reached for Christ. The challenge today may not be convincing them that there was a resurrection, but convincing them there was only one that brings them new life – and that new life is lived out in a community called ‘church.’" How can the church draw the next generation in?

Dr. James Evans McReynolds

Our church is full of over 50’s. We reach out by my serving as a therapist at Valley Hope in Omaha.  Also, we have a Family Guidance Christian Counseling Center within our church.  One young adult wrote in her diary—“I don’t know why young adults don’t come hear Dr. Jim. He must be so discouraged to preach all over the world to young adults but to few here in town.”

If a church has young adults, they’ll get even more. If they have none, they’re not likely to attract any, especially to a small church.  We must speak their language, sing their songs, guide them, don’t judge them,
love-love-love them.
